January 2001 : Latest Matrix News..
As
everybody knows, Jet Li has declined the Matrix 2 & 3
for salary matters : he was indeed offered US$ 3 millions for the
two movies with 11 months of work plus the use of his image for
forthcoming videogames and so on, whereas Keanu Reeves saw his salary
increased to US$ 30 millions plus 15% on the total gross... Imagine
that Jet Li had earnt US$ 3,5 millions three years ago as a new
comer and guest star in Lethal Weapon 4, and US$ 3
millions for Romeo must die as a leading role. Knowing
that he will be paid US$ 9,5 millions for The One,
he was asking for US$ 13 millions for the two Matrix
sequels. Good decision!
After he refused, Michelle Yeoh was proposed the role but she refused
as well almost immediately... The studios also thought about Tom
Cruise or Hugh Jackman (X-men)... no comment. Yuen
Woo Ping is also said to be reconsidering his participation in the
Matrix sequels since he saw his salary only increased
10% which is quite ridiculous if we take into account his decisive
part in the success of the first one.
